Blog post #2 - Maria Murillo
Hello there! Today I will be talking about how our presentation day went! We first divided ourselves into the same 3 groups as last time and we each were assigned different eras and had to choose an important change makers from that time line that we were interested in. Starting with group 1 who were assigned years 1776-1830s. They said between 1776 and the 1830s, America was a nation in motion. The American Revolution had marked a dramatic break from the British rule. My peer Zebadiah Mckenzie was able to explain and show some examples of the important things that’s happened through those years. For example 1776( Declaration of Independence), 1787 ( Constitution signed), 1789 ( Washington’s presidency), 1791 ( Bill of Rights/ National Bank), 1803 ( Louisiana Purchase), 1820 ( Missouri Compromise), 1830s ( Trail of Tears/ Reform Movements). After that they each started presenting their changemakers. Dylan Rodriguez takes about Thomas Jefferson and how she helped shape American democracy and individual rights. Angelie Sagastume takes talked about Harriet Tubman and how she challenged the idea that African Americans and women should be silenced for future generations. Then they talked about how Susan B. Anthony impacted American society by leading the women’s suffrage movement and helping them with the nineteenth amendment. Abraham Lincoln was also in one of the slides and they talked about how he led the nation during the American Civil War. Oscar Gonzales presented Frederick Douglas and how he helped with the underground railroad and with women’s rights movement. Then we had Aaron Burr who was an American politician and was remembered for his fatal duel with Alexander Hamilton in 1804. Right Burr, one of my peers then talked about Alexander Hamilton and how he helped write and defend the U.S. Constitution. Group did an amazing job presenting all those amazing changemakers that helped America be better. Right after that we discussed some of the information and got right into the next presentation. Group 2 was in charged of all the changemakers in the 1900s and they called their presentation Voices Of Change. The world at that time was changing at a pace never seen before. Group 2 did a fantastic job with the presentation, I am so happy they also included a video/ interview about one of the changemakers and I thought that was genius because that gave us a better understanding of what they did. Now it was turn for group 3( my group ). We were assigned the 2000s and we called out presentation The Digital Age. As we entered the 2000s, the world was stepping into a new millennium, filled with both uncertainty and opportunity. I really enjoyed this activity since I learned a lot not just from my research but also from everyone’s slides and presentations. And lastly the cherry on the top was definitely Tyler, since he sang the beautiful United State’s anthem.
