This presentation was separated into three groups with similar topics on communication. The topics being intercultural communication, communicating in groups, group leadership and problem solving. It was an opportunity to get to learn and discuss with my new classmates significant information on communication. I felt that this was a moment of growth not just for me but also for my classmates that alongside me also enjoyed the presentations. The whole process was well organized and I felt guided through the whole process. I felt the amount of people working in each group was perfectly divided for the slides. The amount of information we were all provided was efficient enough to properly learn the subject and teach the rest of the class about that subject. It was easy to project what we learned into the slides with enough time to complete them. The book also presented the students just enough information to work on well informed slides. All the presentations we presented could be our example for our presentations in the future along with the topics we learned.
Chapter 3 was about intercultural communication and it was presented by group 1. Where the group went into specific details about intercultural communication. I felt that this presentation was very organized and strategized from every participant. I particularly enjoyed the various colorful slides that were presented. To me the colorfulness represented the differences in cultures coming together as one in the slides. Understanding culture is crucial in group communications because it's the language barrier to getting a point across in a way that all participants understand the point that’s being presented. All the slides in this group not only had great visuals but they had little written sentences to briefly go over the topic but the presenters expanded further on the topic from their own understanding. Every student explained things in their own words and elaborated on the subject. The topics of sex orientation and religion helps the listener understand communication on a deeper level since those are traits that make people different in personality and their beliefs. It helped me think about the fact that different age groups and generations tend to have different qualities, which to me is an example of how communication differs with the group ages. The student Dyland had great visuals on all her slides, which helped her point get across for visual learners. The student Akire also did outstanding by giving a real life example in his slides. I learned what Ethnocentrism means and how it affects communication in an intercultural group. Apart from a few technical difficulties all the presentations were presented efficiently.
Chapter 9 was about communicating in groups and it was presented by group 2. In this group we learned about the different types of groups there are and their functions. The slides were very detailed and colorful as well. They were very organized and easy to understand for both visual and auditory learners. The student Rachel had very creative visuals with her own distinct art style. The team members kept their presentations clear and easy to understand for listeners. I liked the way Elessar organized his slides and separated the different types of groups into sections to describe the groups. I think Ayme’s slides were very well put together as the slides had very little explanation and Ayme did most of the explanation herself instead of reading from the slides. Cristobal also explained the forming of a good group and the factors. I really enjoyed the good explanation of norming and performing, which in my opinion is good for any conflicts which tend to happen at some point in time. In Javier's presentation I really liked that he put the ways to manage issue related group conflict in order. With this group presentation I learned about the different types of groups that exist and all the traits they need in order to remain a healthy group.
Chapter 10 was about group leadership and problem solving, and it was presented by group 3. In this group the students went deeper into the leadership roles in groups and how they get around to solve problems in an organized and professional way. Jose was the first to present his slides and I think the way he organized the five leadership styles was very easy to understand and exceptionally organized. I also liked the quotes he used in his slides and how he went into detail on his own about leadership. I liked the setup on the slide about procedural roles presented by Maria. I think the points Joslyn shared in her slides are very organized and she managed to effectively get her point across with very little information. Her presentation was fast and very professionally presented. In Michaels presentation I really liked the questions to guide discussion of solution criteria and how they bring the group closer to solving the solution. I learned about the different types of written formats and how they communicate group results in document form. The last presentation was done by me and the symposium was one of the topics I discussed along with group effectiveness, and the group dynamics evaluation form. I feel that the forms I presented on my slides from the book are crucial to every group for their success. In my group presentation I learned that it takes many tasks in order for a group to be successful.
In conclusion, I think every presentation was very organized and outstandingly performed. I thoroughly enjoyed every presentation as they were all excellent and well executed. I loved the way everyone kept eye contact and got their point across in a professional way. All the presentations came together smoothly and everyone put in the effort to make their slides presentable. Every student took the proper presentation time which was enough to get through the slides. The presentation itself took group work to make it work and that in itself was a learning experience. Now we are all better informed for our next presentation as a group.
